Launch Party for Beach Days a Huge Success

The launch party for Beach Days launch sure was fun!

More than 100 well-wishers joined in the celebration, which included book signings, wine, cake, and free raffles. Vice President Joe Biden paid a surprise visit to Browseabout Books during the event and posed with his copy of the book, adding considerable excitement to the occasion.

Launch parties are great fun for our authors. Several dressed in outfits connected with their stories. Connie McDowell, author of “Witchy Women” came decked out in black, with a spider hat, a necklace of black cats, and a “Witchy Women” shirt. Katherine Melvin, the first-place author of “The Break Out,” and a friend came dressed in brightly colored matching costumes reminiscent of the outfits worn by her story’s main characters when they broke out of the old-age home for one last fling in Rehoboth.

Lots of people indulged in cake, and you can see why from the picture. Our favorite gourmet bakery (the Giant on Coastal Highway) came through as usual with an absolutely delicious cake (“Where did you get this cake?” many people asked) that featured the cover of the book, set in a beachy setting of waves, flip-flops, and umbrellas.

Copies of Beach Days were flying off the shelves and many people took the opportunity to purchase The Beach House and The Boardwalk as well, since some of the authors with stories in those books were in attendance and able to sign their stories. Our launch parties are also a way for the community to express appreciation to Browseabout Books for their generous sponsorship of the contest. The store has already signed up to sponsor the prize money again next year.
